“Science is a way of thinking about the world that makes sense to me. I love the logical nature of science, and I appreciate the way that science has been able to advance society. I love studying the history of science and the technologies associated with science. In my opinion, science is the reason that human populations are able to thrive and so I am passionate about learning about it.”

Professional Experience

Katie worked as a lab manager for PISCO (Partnership for Interdisciplinary Studies of Coastal Oceans) at the University of California, Santa Barbara. In her work at PISCO, she lead a team of interns in long-term biodiversity monitoring projects along the Santa Barbara coast and Channel Islands.

Previously, Katie worked as a biology tutor, a biology outreach program volunteer, and as a coach for camps and school teams.

She will begin teaching at Mountain View High School during the 2018–2019 school year.

Volunteer Experience

Katie volunteers at an animal shelter. She helps walk dogs, feed the animals, participate in public outreach, and keep the facility clean.

Hobbies

Katie is very passionate about animals and fostering kittens. She also enjoys playing volleyball in grass, reading, or hanging out with her dog in her backyard.
