What matters most to me in education is returning power back to marginalized students and equipping them with the skills and knowledge necessary to challenge society and defy statistics. In doing so, I hope to foster a love of learning and build confidence in my students.”

Jacquline’s Story

Teaching Discipline

Mathematics

Why Math

“Throughout my K–12 experience, it was difficult for me to feel like the content was relevant and applicable to my life. However, in my AP Calculus class, learning extended beyond the textbook through a culturally reflective curriculum. We engaged in mathematical analysis of relevant data, engaged in meaningful discourse, and were constantly challenged to use critical thinking and problem solving to observe the world around us. This course challenged the ways that I conceptualized and understood urban education, but sparked a new love of learning and mathematics in me.”
