Why Mathematics

“An engaging calculus class sparked my interest in math, and incredibly supportive professors at Pomona College inspired me to teach with a focus on developing students’ understanding and appreciation of math. I love when students work collaboratively and take ownership of their learning.”

Professional Experience

Kim discovered her interest in teaching while working with middle-school students at Breakthrough Sacramento and AmeriCorps, where she learned a lot about education from these national non-profits aimed at preparing under-served youth for higher education.

She began teaching with the San Francisco Teacher Residency program through Stanford University, and then taught at Abraham Lincoln High School in San Francisco for three years. After teaching in Oakland for a year, she is excited to join the innovative community at The Bay School of San Francisco. Kim appreciates the collaborative and supportive Knowles community, and loves learning so much from other Fellows.

Hobbies

Kim enjoys hiking to beautiful views and waterfalls. Growing up in Singapore influenced her appreciation of cooking and eating delicious food.
