Teachers mold the next generations and are more than just a source of knowledge. They support students in their personal growth as well as their academic and professional growth. Teachers empower students to help them reach their full potential.”

Luis’s Story

Teaching Discipline

Mathematics

Why Mathematics

“As an undergraduate, I wanted to become a mathematician because the beauty and complexity of math fascinated me. However, I decided that my true passion lay in supporting my community back home in San Francisco. I loved math, teaching, and mentoring students of color, so teaching was a no-brainer!”

Professional Experience

As an undergraduate, Luis worked as a supplemental instruction leader in multivariable calculus at the University of Southern California for two years. He also worked as a precalculus teaching assistant at South Central Scholars, and as an after-school teacher and teaching assistant at San Francisco’s Herbert Hoover Middle School.

Luis will begin teaching at John O’Connell High School during the 2019–2020 school year.
