Why Mathematics

“The study of mathematics has provided me with opportunities I would have never thought possible. Beyond that, it has been the scene for countless moments of frustration, insight, and wonder. I want to teach math so that I may share those opportunities and those moments.”

Professional Experience

Marcos worked as a counselor at the Mathworks Honors Summer Math Camp for two years as an undergraduate. At Mathworks, he worked with middle and high school students on topics including general problem solving, probability, combinatorics, and number theory.

Marcos spent a semester in Hungary as part of the first cohort of the Budapest Semester in Mathematics program. During his time in the program, he took courses on the Hungarian Approach to mathematics education and observed a wide range of math classes in the capital city. He also spent some evenings tutoring local high school students in Calculus II.

After receiving his bachelor’s degree, Marcos worked in El Paso, Texas, for a year as a math tutor at a local community college as well as at Mathnasium. He tutored people of various ages on topics ranging from counting to differential equations.

Marcos will begin teaching during the 2018–2019 school year.
