Three Knowles Fellows Named PhysTEC Local Teachers of the Year

FELLOWS STORY

We’re proud to celebrate three exceptional teachers from our community who have been recognized as PhysTEC 2024 Local Teachers of the Year: Teaching Fellow Jessica Estes, Senior Fellow Jennifer Goetz, and Senior Fellow Shannon Morey. By recognizing these outstanding educators, PhysTEC highlights the vital role teacher leaders play in shaping physics education and supporting future physics teachers. This national recognition also elevates the physics teacher education programs that prepare and sustain these educators, reinforcing the mission of institutions dedicated to strengthening the field.

About be selected they said:

“It feels great! When I received the news, I was ecstatic because I consistently am working to create exciting and hands-on learning experiences for my students to try to improve their perception of their ability to do math and science. While I see the daily growth in my students and my students can recognize their own progress, especially when they reflect upon their work, it is also an honor to have this work recognized by an outside organization.”
– Jessica Estes

“It is an honor to be named a Local PhysTEC Teacher of the Year. It is a reflection of the amazing support I have from my colleagues and the Knowles community. I am excited to continue my work with my students and also support current and future physics teachers.”
– Shannon Morey

“It was an honor to be nominated because it encouraged me to reflect and consider all the things I’ve done so far in my career to support quality science education for all students. I was delighted to hear I was named our local PhysTec teacher of the year and it makes me excited to continue empowering my students to see themselves as scientists and, potentially, as future science educators!”
– Jenny Goetz
