Why Mathematics

“Math and I have had a few ups and downs over time, but I think that’s what keeps drawing me back to it. It’s not something that I ever feel that I’ve completely understood, and there’s always more to discover, even in something at a basic level. Now that I know how exciting math can be, I want to be able to share that with my students, many of whom, probably like me, dislike math, or feel they are not good at it.”

Professional Experience

As part of a study abroad program, Rohan worked in the Lycée Français International Anvers, a French international school in Antwerp, Belgium. He worked with some teachers at the school and helped teach a math class in French for students in the equivalent of grades seven through nine. Also, Rohan helped in an English class for French speaking students, and a French class for students who were recent immigrants or refugees who didn’t speak French and/or Dutch.

Rohan spent four summers teaching chemistry and mathematics to middle schoolers from underserved communities in San Jose through Breakthrough Silicon Valley. He began his formal teaching career at Homestead High School during the 2017–2018 school year.
