On November 22, 2013, the IceCube Neutrino Observatory was featured on the cover of Science magazine. Six KSTF Senior Fellows have been closely involved with this project: Casey O’Hara, Liz Ratliff, Katherine ShireyJim LaneScott Murphy and Kristen Forzley. It is noteworthy to mention that O’Hara, Ratliff and Shirey actually traveled to the South Pole.

Since 2009, the Wisconsin IceCube Particle Astrophysics Center (WIPAC) has partnered with KSTF and PolarTREC to send high school math and science teachers to the South Pole to work closely with scientists and engineers on the IceCube Neutrino Observatory. The cover story announces the observation of 28 very high-energy particle events that constitute the first solid evidence for astrophysical neutrinos from cosmic accelerators.
