Opening the black box of field experiences: How cooperating teachers’ beliefs and practices shape student teachers’ beliefs and practices

Ethnographic study of six beginning science teachers during a year-long internship. Teaching practices were strongly influenced by cooperating teachers, with interns initially re-enacting observed lessons and later independently implementing similar strategies. Successful interns also shifted their beliefs to match their mentors.
