My passions in school were math and science. I felt like they spoke my language.”

Laura’s Story

Laura Darnall discovered that she had a talent for teaching while still in high school, when she conducted chemistry study lessons with her peers. Thinking that she wanted to “do” more science, she was set on a career in research and development.

Laura took a research and development position immediately after college but quickly realized the field wasn’t for her. “I felt as if I served no great purpose.” Laura graduated from the Columbia Academy High School in Columbia, Tenn., and earned a BS in chemistry from Freed-Hardeman University. In addition to teaching, Laura is passionate about travel and volunteerism: she has volunteered in Tanzania, Albania, India and Sri Lanka. She also works with her church’s youth group and is involved with her students’ service projects.  Laura is the 2009 Goodlettsville Chamber of Commerce Teacher of the Year and a member of the Tennessee Science Teachers Association.
