Taking the time to listen to students’ thoughts and guiding them through the creation of new knowledge is the most rewarding part of being an educator.”
Kevin’s Story
Kevin became involved with Knowles in 2003, when he was selected as a Teaching Fellow in the physical science cohort. As a Senior Fellow, he participated in Knowles’ Practitioner Inquiry for the Next Generation (PING) group. Additionally, he acts as a resource for Teaching Fellows and Program Officers in phase three of the Fellowship.
While studying marine science at The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey, Kevin worked at an environmental consulting firm in the Hazmat, Geotechnical and Lead/Asbestos departments. He also worked at the Rutgers University Marine Field Station, located in Tuckerton, N.J., on a project dealing with habitat changes in an estuary system. Interested in learning more about education, Kevin enrolled in the Master of Science in Teaching program, with an emphasis on secondary education in physical science, at Rowan University.
For 12 years, Kevin has taught various subjects at Lenape High School, including honors and accelerated chemistry, and accelerated environmental science. He is an in-district trainer within the Lenape Regional High School District, where he has taught a new teacher course—Studying Skillful Teaching—for the last eight years. As a facilitator for Research for Better Teaching—a professional development organization dedicated to improving classroom teaching and school leadership—he leads teachers in analyzing teaching from a pedagogical view. In addition, Kevin has helped to create and implement a teacher evaluation system in his district. He has trained both teachers and administrators on how to evaluate effective teaching and provided professional development for teachers on effective parts of teaching and student learning. Kevin has exhibited teacher leadership on the national stage as a four-time conference presenter for the National Science Teacher Association (NSTA).
Born in Tabernacle, N.J., Kevin still resides nearby in the town of Marlton with his wife and two children. He enjoys spending time with his family on the beaches of the Jersey Shore and coaching his kids’ sports’ teams.
