Rosiane’s Story
Dr. Rosiane Lesperance spent 10 years in the classroom as a high school science teacher. She taught a variety of courses, including biology, forensic science, Advanced Placement Biology, and Advanced Placement Psychology. During the last five years of her high school teaching career, she served as the lead biology teacher and a peer mentor. Beyond the high school classroom, she taught College Biology 101 and 102 for a student enrichment program at Essex County College. Rosiane has written biology curriculum and led professional development on implementing Next Generation Science Standards based science practices in lessons for Newark (NJ) Public Schools. Additionally, she has worked as a graduate instructor and a cooperating teacher, and has led professional development for Montclair State University’s teaching program.
Her research interests include: science education, social justice, urban education, cognitive science, educational psychology, learning and motivation, and teacher development.
Rosiane holds a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences and sociology from Rutgers University, New Brunswick; a master’s degree in biomedical sciences from Rutgers University Medical School; a master’s degree in teaching from Montclair State University; a master’s degree in cognitive studies in education from Teachers College; and a doctorate in cognitive studies in education from Teachers College.
In her spare time, Rosiane enjoys traveling, reading, and spending time with family and friends.
